One of the things we have always enjoyed doing together is travel. We try to take a vacation every year, especially around the time of our wedding anniversary. This time around was no exception ๐ We did A LOT of walking and a bit of running around on our Europe vacation last September, so this time we wanted beach and relaxation. Kauai was the place! We got a REALLY good deal and seized the moment! Have you ever been? It’s very green and a quieter than the other islands. I really enjoyed the cloudy days, the soft breeze, and the clear turquoise water that so beautifully glistens with the reflection of the sun light… it’s probably one of my favorite things and can’t seem to get enough of.
The northern part of Kauai was a bit cooler. We stayed at the Aston Islander by the Beach in the town of Kapaa, close to pretty much everything. We did a little bit of everything, even some kayaking. Because I didn’t want my Nikon D700 to be accidentally dropped in the ocean (GASP!!), here are photos I took with the D5000. We also took snap shots, so I’ll share those later this week :).
Hope you enjoy these images, and if you are ever around the island of Kauai and would like some recommendations just email me and I would be glad to help ;).
These two photos show the view from our balcony ๐
Plumerias, oh so pretty. Flowers, you will see a lot of ๐
We didn’t get the opportunity to visit the botanical gardens, and to tell you the truth, I didn’t mind. With all these mosquito bites I had already gotten, I was not in the mood for any more! I hear there are trees like these but huge. Maybe next time ? ๐
NEVER underestimate the power of the point and shoot camera ๐ it fits ANYWHERE and goes places where you would NEVER think of taking your bigger (and pricier) DSLR ๐
This is one happy dog and me a happy gal with that pretty light.
This trail, perfect for a small walk.
Ive been wondering.. since when did we ever talk about ME becoming his own private photographer?? Maybe a small tip would be in order don’t you think? ๐
Flip flops, I did mention we were on vacation right? ๐
The beauty of plant life.
Outside of the lobby our hotel had orchids planted on the ground and they were simply divine. I think I might have taken WAY to many photos of them, but for the sake of not boring you, here are a few only.. haha
Who needs a macro lens when you can still taken this with a 50mm lens?!! I do! Ha!
See, this is the northern Kauai with a bit of fog. Still warm during the day and slightly, cooler at night.
Did I mention how much I love the ocean water? and the color! it just makes me swoon..
At the Hanalei lookout, isn’t it gorgeous?!!
Loving the fog ๐
A view at the Wailua river where we kayaked.
My brother in law lent us this guide book, it gave us some great recommendations. When going to places we’ve never been to, we are definitely guide book nerds. Nerds that walk around with book in hand, open and wanting to take in the exact same visual image on the book .. lol
Here we did a little self couple photo session… perfect location. I’ll post those photos later, they totally deserve their own post! haha
We took the sunset dinner cruise from Holo Holo Cruise Charters. The sights of the Napali coast were breathtaking, no words to describe it. Just absolutely beautiful.
Love how the light hits the mountains.
At 10 happy, happy years together ๐
Can’t go home without a sunset image right?
Not your Grand Canyon in Arizona, but THIS is worth the visit too ๐
Images look like a wall canvas, doesn’t it?
I don’t know who they are, but I liked it.. photos like these are the type that I wish someone would take of us! However if I start explaining to others how to shoot the image, they might just think I’m looney!
A view of the Napali Coast from another angle. Any angle is great really.
THE best hiking shoes EVER!!!! I loved them.. and at $30 not bad at all ๐
The Spouting horn on Kauai’s south shore in Poipu. The spiting occurs when water rushes under a lava shelf and bursts through a small opening at the surface. Every wave produces a spray.
I had NEVER seen how a pineapple grows… this was very exciting to see.
Our attempt at a self portrait, a bit blurry, but it will have to do ๐
A cute image here of some kiddos playing in the sand ๐
To be continued….
