For a while now I have been debating on wether I should consolidate my personal and business IG accounts. When I started my photography business I wanted to experiment with both accounts, but It was hard keeping up. After reading about the pros and cons of each, I have decided to keep what has been my personal rosa_guerra account for some years now, therefore deleting my “colorngrain” portfolio business IG account. It was easy to decide once I realized that It wasn’t my desire to continue having a “portfolio” account that would ONLY showcase weddings or sessions and nothing about me just because it didn’t “go” with the “look” of the account. I have always been a fan of accounts that show the “real” people behind a business or that encourage a connection with it’s viewers, and I wanted the same for me. I want there to be a connection and real interaction. I also don’t take on too many photography commissions a year, so that was another deciding factor to keep in mind. I wouldn’t want to bombard my friends with everything “photography”.
I’ve realized that my personal account IS my business brand, so my goal is to make it 50% highlighting my recent work or anything photography related and the other 50% will highlight life, travels, recent projects (too many hobbies!) as well as life or daily “nonsense” 🙂
I did a poll and I was happy to see that over 75% voted for one account! I know this doesn’t work for every business out there, but it works for me and it feels right. If you have been following @colorngrain and still want to stay connected, feel free to now follow my personal/business account.
If you are a business owner of have wondered about this topic, how have you gone about it and how has it worked for you? Feel free to let me know your thoughts! 🙂
