The good in my life | Guatemala on Instagram

December 10, 2012

It sure has taken me a while to share my Instagrams from past weeks -including our Guatemala vacation-.  My mind has been EVERYWHERE and although there is so much to share, there is just not enough time!!  But here we are at last, with a few memories that like all the rest, remind me that there is so much good in life.

Let me start off by sharing that the day -or should I say the evening before- we left on vacation, I came home to find Downey with a hot spot that  HAD I arrived a bit later, it would have been an open wound!  The poor thing had been extremely stressed.  Dogs really are extremely sensitive -well, at least mine is ;)- We now have learned that it’s best to take him to my moms house before we bring out the luggage and start packing, that way he doesn’t start freaking out.  That night we took him to the vet.  He was shaved so he would heal faster and was given antibiotics, “stress pills”, an antiseptic spray and WE got a big bill, but along with that a peace of mind before we took off.

Here is a brief re-cap of those two weeks we spent away visiting family, friends and new places which I am always happy to share ๐Ÿ™‚  Happy Monday!!

(Love this quote)๏ปฟ
“Why do you go away?
So that you can come back.
So that you can see the place you came from with new eyes and extra colors.
And the people there see you differently, too.
Coming back to where you started is not the same as never leaving.โ€

We flew on TACA airlines and we were pleasantly surprised that each passenger can carry TWO 50lb pieces EACH! a personal item and one carry on luggage.  WOW! OH! and not only that, we had a full on meal with FREE drinks and wine.  Sure felt like the good old days in flight ๐Ÿ™‚
We stated the first few days with my sister in law and her family.  I LOVED being there and spending time with our niece and nephews ๐Ÿ™‚
Went preaching in some pretty awesome country side.  The roads were an adventure, but SO worth it ๐Ÿ™‚
Anne and I.. and a friend ๐Ÿ™‚
Took a tour at a local silver mine.  Being inside the mine was exciting!  Now we are thankful that we weren’t inside the mine when the earthquake hit Guatemala a few days later.. Yikes!
A little down time at home .. and some sequence of course.
Life is simple and happy here… it really is.  No matter where we are, what we have or NOT, we all can make the best of our life.
My lovies… miss them ๐Ÿ™

This 8 year old boy had his younger siblings at his care while his parents had gone to town.  He took his responsibility very serious.  He would not let go of his little brother all the while I was talking with him ๐Ÿ™‚
The best service group ๐Ÿ™‚  On the way back I had to ride in the back WITHOUT seeing the road or else I would freak out.  I got a little nervous the first time with the hills and super uneven road -thought the truck would seriously turn over!- but I would do again any time ๐Ÿ™‚
The lovely family ๐Ÿ™‚

This here is BEFORE the earthquake.  I was waiting for my toe nails to dry and Francis had just come out of a massage when the earth started to shake.  Scary, but good thing we in the B&B and not outside freaking out.  So much for a relaxing morning ๐Ÿ™‚
This B&B was amazing!  More on that later ๐Ÿ˜‰

On the left is a lady cutting coffee seeds.  Took a tour at a local coffee plantation with beautiful grounds.  More on that later too ๐Ÿ˜‰
Our good friends Leo & Ingrid ๐Ÿ™‚ ( pero que guapos! )

During our day trip to Chichicastenango -try pronounce THAT!-

Seriously… it’s a whole other world!

Alright, so let me share something.  THis time around I decided that I was not going to be walking around in screaming “touristy” outfits.  However, weather wasn’t hot, therefore jeans were ok and bearable.  Besides, I wanted to look decent in pictures too ๐Ÿ˜‰
We had not seen the husbands of these beautiful girls in over 10 years so you can imagine how excited we were!  (Chicos, la pasamos de lo mas bien con ustedes.  Aunque solo fue un rato ๐Ÿ™‚  Gracias!!)

With Franci’s beautiful grandmother.. THE sweetest!!!!
My in-laws poodle, Colocha.  She loved to cuddle, many times forgetting that she was on the heavy side!  ๐Ÿ™‚
Francis with childhood friends.  So good to come back home and find good old friends ๐Ÿ™‚  Both went out of their way to show us around and take us through new experiences.. but more on that later ๐Ÿ˜‰
And here are a few street shots from this colorful town.

Hope you enjoyed these photos and hope that maybe one day you can go visit ๐Ÿ™‚  More on this vacation later!
