Not that I need to explain my self but this has been a question that has been on my mind for a while now, Why do I love and enjoy photography so much? Why do I always keep coming back to it? Not coming back to it in point and shoot kind of way, but in it’s more serious, creative and artful manner. And finally it came to me, well, not exactly now, but it all comes down to what I feel when I see pictures taken long ago, you know, those pictures from centuries ago, decades ago, years ago. Granted I might not be the only one that feels this way, but there is a very special feeling that goes on inside when remembering good times or what ever times were going on when certain pictures were taken.
I have this fascination with old pictures, you know, REALLY old pictures. I went to a thrift store once and in a pile were MANY old B/W and sepia photographs from the 20’s all the way to the late 50’s and I just looked them over wondering, who were these people? what were they like? how was life back then? and WHY are these photographs here? but that’s beyond the point. These people were alive at some point in time and by having their photographs taken, we have a quick view to their past.
Photography is powerful, that is what I think and feel without a doubt. It has the power of transporting us to the past and evoking feelings of nostalgia. It has the power to bring back memories of people, loved ones or events that were and continue to be so dear to us, and many times of course, photographs will bring tears to our eyes.
And so for me, that is what I enjoy and love to be part to be part of, capturing life, special moments that in time they might seem forgotten, but when looked back through a photograph it takes people back day’s, months and maybe even many years into the past.
So, here are a few photos that take ME back to the past; my beautiful mother, me as a young girl and of course, some of my husband Francis. Enjoy!
